Max is a nine-month-old Labrador Retriever mix. He was surrendered to the SPCA of Texas McKinney Center on Oct. 14 due to too many animals being in the home. He is jet black and a great-looking dog. Thus far, Max has been an inside dog and does well indoors. He does need some basic command training. He is a fast learner and eager to please. He loves to go on walks and is well mannered on a leash. Max is a super happy guy and can’t wait to meet his new family. Come and say Hi to Max today! #8941018

Dwight Yoakam weighs about 25 pounds right now, but he'll be a medium to large dog when he's fully grown. He came to the SPCA of Texas on Sept. 28, after being transferred from another shelter. If you like guitars and Cadillacs, then you should definitely come down to the SPCA of Texas Dealey Animal Care Center in Dallas to meet Dwight Yoakam! #8840732

Pet Tip: Pets as Presents
Before you think about giving a pet as a gift this holiday season, the SPCA of Texas suggests that you consider the following:
- Holidays are a stressful time without adding a new personality to the mix.
- Animals are a responsibility -- you would give someone a 15-year responsibility, and something that, over time, will cost thousands of dollars to care for.
- Animal ownership is not something to be entered into lightly and should not be given as a surprise.
- Personalities and schedules may not fit well if the pet is a surprise. Bring the whole family to the shelter, and adopt a pet together to prevent the stress (on the people and the pet) of having to return the pet.
There are many great alternatives to giving a pet as a gift.
- A gift certificate. If you are certain you want to give an animal, let the receiver pick it out. Give a gift certificate for the adoption cost.
- Sponsoring a Foster Pet at the SPCA of Texas. Give a helping hand to a sick animal or one that may be too young to be adopted.
- Sponsoring a SNIP at the SPCA of Texas. Help pay for a spay/neuter surgery for one of our needy animals.
- Honor Gifts. Make a contribution to the SPCA as a gift to someone and a tribute to the person’s pet.
- Give a gift to help the SPCA of Texas. Donate to the SPCA of Texas or give of your time to the SPCA of Texas by volunteering!
