Volume 4, Issue 9

September, 2008

We've survived another summer! Or, at least, we've made it through the majority of it. It's always encouraging to set our sights on autumn weather and the return to gardening as we love it. Let's look into your early-fall activities in this issue of e-gardens. We hope you find it useful, and I hope you'll refer us to a friend.

From the Sperry Garden

We have limited sunlight, so floral beds are somewhat out of the question for most of my landscape. I've turned to container gardening so that I can introduce special interest in both textures and color. This is a garden that I've not shown you before. Click here for details.

Rose Cuttings

Fall is the time to plant and transplant. This month Mike Shoup shifts gears to talk not just about roses, but about the impact of color choices in our gardens. Click here to read his thoughts on the drama of color.

Time Here For Feedings!

Ask any expert - your September feedings will be the most critical of the entire gardening year. We have two great fertilizers, but you'll only need one of them. Click for all the details and to locate a dealer who carries them.
Pest Check

The end of summer may bring grasshoppers and persistent fire ant mounds to our landscapes. Click here for control suggestions from Kimberly Schofield, Texas AgriLife entomologist.
Take-All Root Rot

When the owner of this lawn called Neil's radio show last month, he didn't know what was wrong - bermuda mites, perhaps? Suspecting TARR (take-all root rot), Neil asked him for photos and then joined the hunt for a solution. Click here to read details and see the happy homeowner's latest photos.
